The thermostat operates redistribution of streams of a cooling liquid in system of cooling of the engine. The thermostat is located in the case of the water pump under a cover which has a sealing ring (see fig. 468).
Order of removal of the thermostat (works are spent on the cold engine):
- Merge cooling liquid from cooling system;
- Disconnect bringing hose;
- Uncover the thermostat;
- Remove the thermostat with a sealing ring.

The note
For convenience of access to the thermostat lift a forward part of the car and establish it on support.

The thermostat is not subject to repair, therefore in case of malfunction replace it. Simple check of working capacity of the thermostat is spent as follows:

- Suspend the thermostat on a wire and lower it in a vessel with cold water (fig. 192 see);
- Suspend the thermometer (with an interval of measurement of temperature not less than 10-120 C) so that it did not concern a vessel bottom;
- Heat up water.
Check up:
1) whether will start the thermostat to open at temperature 85 C;
2) at temperature 105 C the thermostat should open completely;
3) the thermostat pin should be put forward from the case a minimum on 7 mm.
If the thermostat does not maintain this check it is necessary to replace it.
At thermostat installation use a new lining. Check up a hose collar before again it to establish on a hose. Fill in cooling liquid in cooling system as it has been described in item 19.1.1.
